I have 20 years experience of working in education, teaching in schools in Wakefield, Leeds and the Caribbean. I have also worked for Education Leeds, carrying out writing moderation in schools across the city and delivering English training. I have experience of sitting on the Governing Body of previous schools where I have worked. I started as the Headteacher of Burley and Woodhead CE Primary in September 2015. During that time, I have had strategic responsibility for the school finances, premises, curriculum development, staffing, safeguarding and health and safety. In addition, I successfully applied for and set up the Burley Woodhead English Hub, one of 34 schools across the country who lead on phonics and reading.

Mr M Selby Foundation Governor Finance Committee Member Mental Health Governor RSE Link Governor |
Mark has been involved with Burley and Woodhead since 1995 with two children passing through the school and since then, through Church links, retained a role as a foundation Governor. Mark runs his own consulting business working in the regulatory framework for environmental and consumer safety of chemicals, advising Government agencies and Industry. A large part of this work is training and teaching skills learnt from professionals in school has proved invaluable. Running a business also allows for flexibility in working times and this permits time to support school and to get involved in school trips and other activities. Business skills, such as working to regulatory frameworks and financial reporting cross over with requirements in supporting school.
