Sport
Here at Burley and Woodhead Primary we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all children, both through two hours of good-quality PE for each child each week in school time, and through our wide variety of sporting activities out of school hours,
Our newly installed running track ensures children can run or jog, at their own pace, with their classmates, making them fitter, healthier, and more able to concentrate in the classroom. Highly experienced coaches lead lessons in certain subjects such as tennis, cricket, hockey, football and rugby. This ensures children receive a wide range of input.
Burley Woodhead is a strong sporting school. A significant proportion of pupils achieve well in a very wide range of sports. We take part in the local sports league, competing against children from other schools in the area. The school hockey, swimming and football teams have done exceptionally well in the local competitions.
The school has a history of very high participation in cross country, with significant levels of success. Over a third of the children in school take part in the local cross country league. We also have a history of successful participation in cycling events such as the Big Pedal. In 2019, we were the 30th school nationally.
We arrange regular visits from a range of inspirational athletes.
