Relationship and Health Education

Our Relationship and Health Education Policy is in the process of review.  The current Policy can be accessed by clicking on this page, or via the Policy page of our website.

We embrace equality and diversity, promoting acceptance of difference in line with
Stonewalls’ “Different Families” campaign. We ensure our resources and language are
inclusive of all families. Children will understand that a loving relationship can be between a
mum and dad, dad and dad or mum and mum.

Parents have the right to withdraw their children from sex education lessons taught as part of
the PSHE curriculum. Primary schools are required to teach the elements of sex education
contained in the science curriculum and relationships and health education and there
continues to be no right to withdraw from these lessons.

Requests for withdrawal should be put in writing and addressed to the head teacher. A copy
of withdrawal requests will be placed in the pupil’s file so that parents’ wishes are on record.
Alternative work will be given to pupils who are withdrawn from sex education.
